An old and easy one, but worthy nonetheless: Checking and ensuring head bolts are tight.

Not having ready and easy access to head bolts (ie. remove - roll cage, engine bolts, fan cover, engine shroud etc) - can sometimes lead to serious issues. Of course running without a shroud helps - but thats not always appealing to everyone.
