During their visit to Pakistan in December 2012,
Dr. Abdur Raoof (SEHT Chairman)
and Azra Jabeen (SEHT Trustee) were able to meet
Mr and Mrs Shakeel of Aabroo. Azra was able to discuss and
explore ways and means through which SEHT could continue to support
Aabroo's schools
programme for disadvantaged children and development of the
syllabus, particularly
mathematics. Dr. Raoof visited Aabroo School for Girls in the
outskirts of Lahore and having identified lack of even the basic
equipment for teaching of science subjects, arranged for the supply
of materials requested by the science teachers. This was
personally delivered in January 2013 at a cost of Pak Rs
198,000 including cabinets
for storage.
Dr Raoof also visited the Sialkot Medical complex
which has been providing deserving patients free
outpatient consultations by
specialists in all major clinical disciplines, as well as
Consultant-supervised
inpatient facilities
including an ICU and dialysis centre.
It also provides a free ambulance service, discounted
medicines and subsidised treatment for people with low incomes. Dr
Raoof was particularly impressed by the renal dialysis centre and
promised that SEHT would Inshallah supply two specialised dialysis
chairs on his return to the UK.
