SEHT Trustee Dr. Alia Raoof made a visit to
Pakistan in August 2013. She met with the Chairman of the Sialkot
Medical Complex Mr. Amanullah, who showed her around the various
departments in the Complex. Earlier in the year, SEHT had shipped
two dialysis chairs, one manual and one electric, for use in the
Renal Dialysis Unit. The benefits were apparent as they had allowed
maximum use of the limited space available in the Unit, so providing
a greater number of dialysis sessions for the patients who rely on
this life-saving treatment. Mr. Amanullah expressed to Dr. Raoof
how, with the help of charities such as SEHT, many of the
space-occupying beds in the Unit could eventually be replaced by
similar dialysis chairs.
Other departments visited were the medical and
surgical wards. Some individual rooms were seen, available for those
patients requiring this facility. The paediatric units, containing
cots and cot-side beds, had been set up to allow parents to remain
with their children at all times. Dr. Raoof was also taken to see
the Conference Centre attached to the Complex, revenues from the
hire-out of which help to enable the hospital to be run with minimal
cost to the patients, most of whom would otherwise be unable to
afford treatment.
Throughout the visit Dr. Alia Raoof was able to
see the efficiency with which Mr. Amanullah runs the Complex and his
attention to detail. As part of SEHT’s responsibility to ensure that
donations are appropriately used, it was clear on this visit that
the equipment provided was being used effectively and was much
appreciated by the patients. The Sialkot Medical Complex and other
such not-for-profit hospitals provide much-needed high quality care
for patients often in severe financial difficulty. With your support
and donations Inshallah SEHT hopes to continue to help.
